I and you as well I guess have heard this word ‘side hustle’ thrown around quite often in the millennial generation, indicating what we do to make ends meet.
The Urban dictionary defines it as a sideline that brings in cash; something other than your main job. I have a lot of my friends I come across, selling shoes on the side, owning clothing stalls, running eating joints, farming etc just to make sure they have a bit more to live on as opposed to depending only on the salary.
What is the perfect side hustle?
Ideally, the perfect side hustle should reduce the risk whilst giving the maximum benefits
- The product should be able to generate repeat business and unique enough to appeal to a market niche
- The overheads should be minimal or ideally none at all
- It should be a business that can be done concurrently with ones job or during one’s free time i.e before 8 am, after 5pm and during the weekend,
- The idea should bring in daily income that can sustain ones expenses without the headache
My Idea of a perfect side hustle – Network Marketing:
Network marketing is often given a bad rap, misunderstood by many – so what exactly is it?
In many ways it’s the forerunner to today’s ‘sharing’ and networking on social media; it’s recommending and sharing products that you genuinely love to family, friends and colleagues in the same way that you would recommend a restaurant or a film you have enjoyed.
The direct selling industry is not new – you might be surprised to learn that the first direct selling company was an educational books publisher called Southwestern formed in 1855, and that Avon was formed just over 30 years later in 1886. Rather than retailing through the traditional ‘High Street’, network marketing replaces the middle men and places an associate to distribute said products. Unlike the traditional way of marketing, the distributor’s responsibility is to enjoy high quality products and recommend the products to their network.
How does network marketing work?
Forever Living is a ‘direct selling’ company providing people with an opportunity to start their own business under the umbrella and with the support of a global brand; or as many of you may have heard me say ‘the opportunity to be in business for yourself but not by yourself’. Forever Living, will be 40 years old next year, operating in 159 countries. Our aloe inspired products spanning health, beauty, nutrition, weight management and fitness, as well as products from the bee hive.
Forever Living business owners are paid a commission on their retail sales and if they choose to grow their business further by building a team they are also paid a commission by the company on their team members’ sales. In addition the company rewards people who achieve certain volumes of business with increased commission levels, and over time, as they progress they receive other incentives including car plans and all expenses paid training/inspirational events such as the annual global rally held in a different city around the world each year.
Why I am so passionate about Forever Living:
I say Forever found me in 2016 through a mutual friend of our family and my wife Gladys and I decided to listen to this young lady who whilst still a student and looking to make some extra cash came across this amazing opportunity presented to her through her own father. She was excited to have a chance to work and leverage on the experience, product and name of a company that had been around for a while, that did not require any credentials only her ability to believe in herself. She was offered free mentorship by the team she was joining which meant she had people she could run to and talk to with every step in her business, which in a way made the journey doable.
Gladys and I loved the 35% profit margins and the percentage payments that she said she made part time around her commitments all while still a student.
